A First Year at Smith

this site hasn’t updated in months, sorry! we have all been busy actually living our Smith lives and becoming involved in different things.

update: i’ve fallen in love with smith rugby and am public relations chair this semester, VP of emerson, and i’m taking an amazing schedule of classes including intro to swag, intro to political thinking, arabic, middle eastern americans, and pilates. I have an interview this sunday for a job at Pride and Joy in Thornes and then a phone interview with massachusetts transgender political coalition on tuesday!

i have the best friends in the entire world and i can’t wait to see how this semester goes.

Smithies, we gotta get on this. As a group. Because this is not okay. Telling people they have to withhold themselves from activities based on identity (not because a potential prospie is uncomfortable, which would make sense, but just because one identities as male, period) is just so f**ked up.

Family Weekend

My momma is coming tomorrow and even though I just saw her a couple weeks ago I’m still really excited. She is my best friend and the best mom in the world. The other day she posts on my fb wall “wearing some purple today baby!!” for Spirit Day, it made me so happy. So none of the three of us have really been updating this at all so I’ll just update for all three of us because it’s Friday and I’m fucking bored. So classes thus far are great except astronomy which if any of you have had a conversation with me know that I HATE IT, so much. Arabic is my favorite class and I’m doing really well surprisingly. I also really enjoy sociology despite all the “that girls” in the class and my english is pretty chill as well. I’m playing rugby, duh and it is absolutely amazing. My rugby sib is the best person in the whole world and i love him. We have gotten really close and it’s like having the big brother i always wanted.

Jess is our vice president! Kicking ass and taking names, of course. So proud of my baby grl.

Charlye is also kicking ass and taking names but in ultimate frisbee! Best bro forevahhh.

Personally, I haven’t really experienced any competition between students. It was actually something I was nervous about coming here but it hasn’t been an issue at all. There are always those classes that have the “that girls” who are super PC and know it all but for the most part you can just laugh about them later. Professors are actually really available and invested in their students, at least mine are! A good example would be my Arabic teacher, he hosts study groups every Tues/Thurs, has a FB group for the class and he’s really good about emailing back quickly. And I think that the majority of students here are very happy. There are some first years in my house who aren’t necessarily super happy but they also sort of isolated themselves from the beginning. I would definitely say that students are here because they want to be here and that they all really love it.

WEEEKEND! (finally)

After a very long week I’m so ready for it to finally be Friday. My weekend essentially starts on Thursday because the only class I have Friday is Arabic from 9-9:50 so it totally doesn’t count. Last night Camila and I went movie shopping at Newbury Comics, got a few awesome movies and today we are going to Target to buy chocolate milk and v-necks haha. My best fran Steven who goes to UMASS is coming today to spend some time with me until I have rugby practice. Then we have back line bonding which will be really fun and an away game at Babson tomorrow! LETS GOO SMITH RUGBY <3 Tomorrow night is going to be so awesome, I find out who my rugby big sib is. It’s going to be excellent.

I CANT WAIT to see my best friend meg next weekend <3 ptown trip with some ruggers. I love my life.
